01 / About the Olympiad
Golden Climate International Environmental Project Olympiad (GCIEPO) is the biggest school science project competition of its kind in East and Central Africa. Organized and hosted annually by LightPulse Group of Schools, it has attracted the participation of over 30 countries since it began in 2011 — with an average of 20 countries taking part each year.
Golden Climate is a non-profit event devoted entirely to environmental issues: it exists to promote a global understanding of sustainability, while giving students the skills, exposure and confidence to become the environmental leaders, scientists and engineers of the future.
LightPulse Group of Schools promote learning beyond the walls of the classroom. In this quest, our students have been attending and participating in different international Olympiads in other countries since 1998, competitions aimed at broadening their vision and perspective of the world and diversifying their knowledge, exposure and approach to learning. The experiences during these events are what led to the start of an environmental Olympiad of our own — which we dubbed Golden Climate.
We see Golden Climate as an opportunity, not only for our own students but for other Kenyan students as well, to engage in unique, beneficial cooperative learning that gives them an international experience without leaving their own country. It is equally an opportunity for foreign students to visit and share their knowledge, while they themselves benefit from learning alongside their African counterparts.
Organizing Golden Climate is a demanding undertaking in terms of time, resources and finances. We lighten this burden by working with like-minded companies, institutions, and educational and government bodies through sponsorship. If your organization would like to know more about sponsoring Golden Climate, get in touch with us.
